Students and local leaders unite for International Women’s Day event at ͯÑÕÊÓƵ

Future changemakers and trailblazers will come together this March for an International Women’s Day event designed inspire the next generation of women leaders.

27 February 2026

Taking place on Wednesday 4 March 2026, 2–4pm at the University’s Moulsecoomb campus, the free panel event will bring students, professionals and community members into one room to explore how collaboration across generations and industries can break down barriers and create more inclusive pathways to success. Tickets can be booked

As part of the University’s International Women’s Day celebrations, this year’s theme – Collaboration – focuses on how collective action can accelerate gender equality in workplaces and communities.

Organised by the University’s School of Business and Law in partnership with student societies and supported by the Help to Grow: Management Course, the discussion forms part of the institution’s wider International Women’s Day celebrations and is the second instalment of its Women in Leadership event series.

Local leaders joining the panel include:

Lindsey Clay: Lyndsey Clay is an award-winning entrepreneur, visibility strategist, and founder of Connected ͯÑÕÊÓƵ. Named a Top 100 Inspiring Female Entrepreneur in 2024, she supports purpose-led founders to grow their brands through confident online presence, content strategy, and mentoring. She is currently expanding her model nationally with Connected In The City.

Karen Dobres: Karen Dobres is an author, speaker, former fashion model, and trained counsellor who has become a prominent voice for gender equality in football. After discovering the women’s game in 2017, she joined Lewes FC, later serving as Equality Campaign Manager and then director. She now speaks nationally on inclusion, community ownership, and the cultural influence of football.

Penina Shepherd: Penina Shepherd is a multi-award-winning entrepreneur, speaker, commercial solicitor, and author. She founded Acumen Law in 2007 during a recession while raising three children and recovering from serious illness – an experience that shaped her leadership philosophy. She also serves on nonprofit boards and is a trustee of Rockinghorse Children's Charity, supporting children’s health services.

These leaders will be joined by students from the University’s business, law, and marketing societies to encourage dialogue, mentorship, and shared learning. The session is designed to be interactive, and attendees will be able to ask questions, discuss challenges facing women in leadership, and gain practical advice they can apply in their own careers or communities.

Stelle Batchelor, BSc (Hons) International Business Management student and President of the Women in Business Society, said: “Celebrating the achievements and collaborations of women in business creates more than just conversation, it builds a sense of unity and purpose. These events become spaces where ambition is shared, community flourishes, and meaningful connections take root. For young women navigating through male-dominated industries, hearing the stories and insights of successful professionals ignites the confidence and courage needed to rise above limitations and truly break the glass ceiling.”

Cerys Powell, BSc (Hons) Marketing Management student and President of the Marketing Society, said: “Opportunities like this build confidence, open doors to meaningful networking, and give us real insight into different career paths by connecting us directly with inspiring professionals. Being part of something that brings students and leaders together in such an empowering space shows how powerful collaboration can be, and I’m proud that the Marketing Society could help make it happen.”

Professor Catherine Robinson, Dean of the ͯÑÕÊÓƵ’s School of Business and Law said: “The School of Business and Law is delighted to host the Women in Leadership event once again in celebration of International Women’s Day. Collaboration is a vital skill we strive to cultivate in our students and champion through our research, as it drives stronger ideas, more effective solutions, and ultimately better outcomes.”

“By listening to and embracing diverse perspectives, we develop approaches that reflect a broader understanding of society. As a School, we are committed to supporting responsible enterprise for a fairer future and work closely with regional businesses to provide our students with meaningful real-world experience. We look forward to an inspiring and aspirational event.”
